Each day we see reports of the most horrific actions done in Ukraine with unimaginable fear, pain, suffering and loss of life. We are an international association of judges committed to the rule of law and will maintain that position with all of our ability and even when things seem obvious. We do, however, call for the violence to end immediately.

On 30 March 2022, a webinar from the International Association of Judges was called to discuss what has occurred in the two years since the judicial protest march of Polish judges and their European colleagues. Given that the presenters included those from Ukraine, the webinar was indeed sobering. Read Jeff Smith’s report.

As you may remember, in its meeting in Santiago del Chile, in 2017, the Central Council of the IAJ decided to set up a Working Group charged to draft guidelines and a model statute in order to promote the establishment of associations of judges in countries where there were not. The working group concluded its activities and you may find here enclosed the final official version.
